The coastal region of Port Stephens is not exactly a well known destination outside of Sydney, but it is certainly well worth a visit, with its pristine waterways, golden sandy beaches, diverse ecosystems.
From central Sydney, journey through the evergreen landscape of the region’s countryside and historic towns to your first stop at the Australian Reptile Park. The reptiles are the key attraction here: walk with Hugo, a giant but gentle Galapagos tortoise, and visit Elvis, dubbed Australia's crankiest crocodile.
Arriving at Port Stephens, walk around the town or stop for a meal before boarding the dolphin watching cruise.
As the resident bottlenose dolphins have several pods around the area, there is a very good chance of seeing one, so keep your eyes peeled!
Straight after, travel in a purpose-built 4WD vehicle towards the enormous dunes of the Stockton Bight Sand Dunes, the largest sand dune system in Australia. Feel free to sandboard or slide down these dunes at your own pace!
